The Erker-Galerie in St. Gallen, founded in 1958 by Franz Larese and Jürg Janett, was a centre of gravity for post-war modern art in Switzerland and mediated contemporary art of the highest rank. In addition to a publishing house, the Erker-Galerie also included the famous Erker-Press, which published first-class editions.
On the occasion of a donation to the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition St. Gallen Adventure - Hartung, Tàpies, Uecker and the Erker-phenomenon took place. The catalogue shows graphic works by thirteen artists, including - alongside Tàpies, Hartung and Uecker - Eduardo Chillida, Asger Jorn, Serge Poliakoff and Richard Paul Lohse.
Something special is the lithographed, signed and numbered cover of the exhibition catalogue. This was drawn by Günther Uecker in February 2012 in St. Gallen on stone and printed for the 300 piece edition of the catalogue. The publication thus follows the tradition of the bibliophile books of the bay window.
